The Republic of Croatia and the Government of the Republic of Korea signed the Agreement on Air Traffic

Zagreb, December 30, 2015 – Today in Zagreb the Minister of Maritime Affairs, Transport and Infrastructure Croatian Mr. Siniša Hajdaš Dončić and the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to the Republic of Croatia H.E. Hyung-won Suh signed the Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Croatia and the Government of the Republic of Korea on air transport.

The Agreement is the result of strong interest in the further advancement of exceptional bilateral relations and economic development between the Republic of Croatia and the Republic of Korea, and lays the international legal framework in the field of international civil air traffic between the two countries and provides an easier establishment of transport, passenger and cargo flows.

In May 20014, the Korean side in launched an initiative for the conclusion of bilateral international agreements on air transport and the creation of systematic international legal framework in the field of international air transport between the Republic of Croatia and the Republic of Korea, followed by the held talks of the two countries delegations and agreed on the text of a single international agreement between the Government of the Republic of Croatia and the Government of the Republic of Korea on air transport.

The Agreement will allow the establishment of direct regular flights in air transport between the two countries, which would additionally encourage the further growth of tourist arrivals. In recent years, the Republic of Korea has become the most dynamic tourism market with the highest tourist arrivals in Croatia outside the European continent.

Croatia has become a favorite destination for tourists from South Korea. In the first ten months of this year, Croatia had more than 300 thousand first time tourists visit from South Korea, and by the end of this year it is expected that our country was visited by more than 350,000 Korean tourist.

Korean media and prominent travel portals like The Chosun Ilbo describe Croatia to their readers as a small central European country, which has fine beaches and picturesque towns in the Mediterranean, and in the last few years’ active bloggers who write about travel have drawn attention of Korean tourists to the stunning scenery and affordable Croatian prices.

Adding that especially numerous women and elderly people were motivated to visit Croatia after displaying its beauty, including UNESCO sites, Dubrovnik and other tourist attractions on the cable TV program TVN.
