Zagreb, January 07, 2016 – Today at 14 am in the small hall of the Rectorate of the University of Zagreb and the Korean University of Ulsan signed the Memorandum of Understanding. This memorandum establishes a collaboration between the University of Zagreb and the University of Ulsan for the purpose to develop academic and cultural exchanges in the fields of education, research and other activities, in accordance with the internationalization of higher education.
The signing ceremony was attended by Ph.D. Damir Boras the rector of the University of Zagreb, prof. Ph.D.. Miloš Judaš, vice-rector for science, inter-institutional and international cooperation of the University of Zagreb, Dean of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science prof. Ph.D.. Mislav Grgić, Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering prof. Ph.D.. Zvonimir Guzović, prof. Ph.D.. Kresimir Ćosić from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Dr.Phil. Branka Roščić, Head of the International Relations Office of the University of Zagreb.
Korean Ulsan University was represented by the President of the University of Ulsan Dr. Yeon-Cheon Oh, professor at the Faculty of Sociology and Head of cooperation between the University and industry, Dr. Sung-Jun Pyo and Dr. Joon-Keum Jung, professor at the Faculty of Public Administration and Dean of postgraduate study Public Policy. The signing of the Memorandum was attended by the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Croatia, H.E. Hyung-won Suh and counselor of the Embassy of Mr. Che Dong-hwan.
Also, separate Memorandums of Understanding have been officially signed by representatives of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture, University of Zagreb and the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Naval and Maritime, University of Ulsan and representatives of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing, University of Zagreb and Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, University Ulsan.
Rector of the University of Zagreb, prof. Ph.D. Damir Boras stressed the importance of signing the MoU with the University of Ulsan, which is among the top universities in the world and a leader in technical sciences, founded by world-renowned multinational company Hyundai.
Dean prof. Ph.D. Mislav Grgić stated his satisfaction with this new cooperation between the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing, University of Zagreb and the University of Ulsan in the fields of electrical engineering, electronics and computer science, and mentioned the intensive cooperation with the Croatian-Korean Business Club, which aims is to promote and enhance economic cooperation between the Croatian and the Republic of Korea.
Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering prof. Ph.D.. Zvonimir Guzović stressed the fact that this cooperation with the Korean University is a great boost for the development of shipbuilding in Croatia since the shipyard of Hyundai is one of the largest in the world.
President of the University of Ulsan Dr. Yeon-Cheon Oh pointed out that these memorandums establish academic ties with the principles of mutual understanding, mutual benefit, mutual interests and inter-related activities.
The signed memorandums will strengthen and develop cooperation between the educational institutions. These programs include the exchange of faculty staff and students, joint research projects, cooperation on joint start-up projects, joint conferences and promotion of academic activities, cultural programs, exchange of publications and other materials, and other forms of academic cooperation of mutual interest.
The exchange of faculty staff and students will be regulated by special agreements or existing programs between the University of Zagreb and the University of Ulsan. The contract specifies the period of cooperation for five years.
A round entitled “Cooperation among academic communities and shipbuilding industry,” table was organized after the signing of the memorandums. The round table was attended by representatives of the University of Zagreb, representatives of the largest Croatian shipyards and other academics.
